Roles and permissions

A Role groups permissions so you can control a crew member's access to a project. It is different from a story Character and from the member's production Duty.

Common permission areas

AreaExamples
Viewing and playbackRead chapters and play available audio
Script editingEdit text, characters, and performance guidance
RecordingUpload or generate audio and change permitted voice settings
Post-ProductionEdit tracks, clips, effects, and mixes
ReviewGenerate transcripts, review differences, and manage Issues
AdministrationManage members, workflow, and project settings
ExportDownload audio and export permitted reports

Default roles provide a starting point. Review the actual permissions rather than relying only on a role's name.

Configure roles

  1. Open the project's member and Roles & Permissions settings.
  2. Select an existing role or use Add Role / Create Role to create one.
  3. Enter its name and configure the relevant permissions.
  4. Add members to the role and save the changes.
  5. Check that they have the access required for their tasks.

Members with multiple roles receive the combined permissions from those roles. Removing one role may not remove access granted through another.

Voice settings and management access

Permissions for a member's own voice settings can differ from permissions to change another person's settings. Assign broader settings access only where the production needs it.

Project ownership operations and certain generation-mode settings remain reserved for the creator. A director or administrator should check the permissions shown before relying on access to those settings.

If an action is unavailable

An entry may be hidden, disabled, or blocked by a permission message. Ask the project creator or authorized administrator to check your role. A role change alone cannot remove a restriction caused by expired membership, full storage, or frozen access.
